Kai had seemed awkwardly quiet during their conversation and Hiruko couldn't help but notice him watch them all as they spoke with heightened interest. His eyes watched them eagerly, the mind behind them thinking, learning.
His sudden accident he endured was unexpected but Hiruko quickly rushed to his aid in worry. "Are you okay?" he asked out of politeness. The wound looked painful and there was a small trail of blood exiting it and flowing freely onto the rocks. "Here, let me help you."

Kiryu leapt forward, he moved briskly and carefully towards Kai and Hiruko. He turned back towards Seema "watch your step, it would be most unfortunate if both of my new guests hurt themselves today, the water from the falls means the rocks are very mossy and slippy."
Kiryu laughed in his head a little, why was he being so nice to her, maybe recent turns of events meant that he was extending his best to anyone who didn't immediately act hostile towards him. It had been a long month, his laugh turned to a resigned sigh.

Kurai grunted with pain as Hiruko tried to move him. "I ... can't." he panted, giving up and falling back down onto his side. The pain was real, he couldn't fake that, but what was now important was getting closer to Hiruko and his den. Hiruko being eagerly helpful, as he had just shown, proved to Kurai that he would not just leave him there, unlike his brother did all those years ago. He had made himself weak and vulnerable, barely able to stand. He would have to rely on others now to take his plan to the next step.

Seema watched carefully - what was Kurai up to? He had clearly fallen deliberately... that said, the pain he was in was real and his motives were not important right now. "Can I help?" she called over from where she was stood, still a short distance away. For some reason, Kiryu's warning of the danger was one she had actually heeded - probably because somebody had spoken nicely to her for a change. "I am trained, you know." What people often seemed to forget about Seema and Tersias was the situation in their home country - a situation which had led Seema to run away and join the army. Not only had she received full military training, but when they had cottoned on she was a woman she had been shoved through nursing training too.

Hiruko inspected the injury: it was quite severe but not life-threatening...if the blood stopped.
"We have to treat him," Hiruko informed them. "We should get him back to my den, I have plenty of herb stores there."
He then began analysing how they were going to get him to his den. Kai wasn't stocky at all but he was still large - Hiruko wouldn't be able to carry him without help.
"I will take most of his weight," he suggested. "Kiryu, if you could just support his lower body, particularly his injured leg, that would be great." He pushed his paws gently underneath Kai and used his leg and back muscles to lift the wolf up. He was right, Kai was heavy but due to his small build, it could have been a lot worse.
"I'll run a little slower, I don't want to cause too much stress on the wound."

Seema was of two minds - while a part of her was glad at the chance to keep her distance from Kurai and avoid raising suspicion, she was also starting to find the total ignorance of her expertise by the Tialkans a little frustrating. Yes she had a chequered past, but so did everyone else here and she didn't see many of them with years of experience as military nurses... But such was life, and Tialka was just an obstacle to be endured for a short while longer. She soothed her conflicted mind with this thought as she followed the rest of the party towards Hiruko's den.

Kiryu sighed, it would take time for them to travel to Hiruko's den. He looked towards Seema, she was looking annoyed. As he pondered if there was anything that he had done wrong, he moved over to Hiruko and Kai. He knelt down before stretching out his wing, a couple of black feathers gracefully danced towards the ground. Beams of light passing through the holes in his wing creating a polka dot pattern on the ground beneath him.
"Here" Kiryu stated "it doesn't look like much, but it's tough." He mentioned towards Kai "Put him down on the wing, add a little support from the bottom and hold him steady on the top, we'll move a lot faster." He looked at them both "I'd offer him my own den, but we wouldn't get him up the waterfall in his condition and I gather fresh herbs, the water would damage any stores."
He looked back at Seema, smiling as she followed them. It was nice for him to have someone who didn't seem to loathe him, but why of all people Tersias sister, surely they would have discussed her vision. He shook his head, focusing upon the here and now, "If you could keep an eye out for anything that could stem the bleeding, that would be great" Kiryu didn't know whether she knew about the plants of Tialka, or medicine in general, he himself had achieved it through trial and error combined with a general disregard for his own safety, Kiryu doubted many others would learn in the same fashion.

"Ask and you shall recieve" she half-smiled, reaching into her satchel. Seema had always carried her satchel, but (aside from that it was the same olive green as the scarf she was never without) the satchel had largely remained unnoticed by those around her. Searching through the bag as she walked, she pulled out a large leather pouch, which she opened to reveal comprehensive medical supplies - bandages, scissors, needles, sterile thread, gauzes, antibacterial solutions, and a large bottle made of brown glass. "I can't do much about the bleeding until we stop, but this should help with the pain. It might make Kai a little sleepy though, so be careful" she said, in a bright tone she rarely spoke in. Rolling one of the bandages up into a ball, she took the stopper off the large bottle and tipped a little of the noxious yellowish fluid it contained onto the bundle. "In my world we call this Paralox. It's a pain killer and a mild sedative - not very long lasting, but perfect for a short term solution till you can get someone stabilised." Seema stepped up her pace a little to keep up with the men, drawing level with Kai and putting the bundle in his paw. "Hold this to your mouth and breath it in, it will help" she said softly.

Kurai was not sure what was going on. He thought he would be taken to Hiruko's straight away, but for some reason there seemed to be a delay, most likely caused by the growing connection between the two foxes. Seema's feelings must be getting in the way of the bigger picture. He thought angrily. No matter, she promised she would aid me in our plan. She needs me just as much as I need her.
As his body - now writhing in pain - was passed from Hiruko, then to Kiryu, Kurai had a brief feeling of doubt. Would the plan ever work? What if he did not make it through this stage of the plan? Don't be stupid. You're in. The pain's messing with your mind. What the - Kurai suddenly felt extremely dizzy as Seema put some awful smelling bundle of cloth to his muzzle. He choked, trying to fight the feeling of being pulled down, kicking out wildly for a few seconds, until the unknown liquid had knocked him out. His body fell limp on top of Kiryu and stayed still.

Seema's jaw fell and she almost dropped the bottle she was still holding. "Oh my..." she gasped, "That was... unexpected. I guess it packs a bit more of a punch when wolves use it. Should have thought of that, I'm really sorry" she winced, that was a mistake she would never have made on the field. "It doesn't last too long though, at least I hope it won't. Normally on our men it only really does any good for about ten minutes - long enough to get them to safety and figure out what to do next. But it doesn't normally knock them out, so how long it will last in these circumstances is anyone's guess..." Seema was blushing, the first time she had ever made use of her skills in Tialka and it was an unmitigated disaster. Kurai's pain had been solved, but now he was unconscious - and that would make him dead weight to carry, which could well impede their ability to transport him quickly. She quickly stowed the bottle and bandage back in her bag and continued to walk alongside Hiruko and Kiryu, falling silent. She had made a professional gaffe and embarassed herself in front of the only people who seemed to be giving her half a chance - this was not one of her greatest moments.

Seema was now blushing with embarrassment due to her errors. They had little time to lose and Hiruko proceeded to carry Kai towards his den which wouldn't be an easy journey. During the trek, Seema had little to say now that her pride had been damaged.
"Cheer up, Seema," Hiruko said to her. "Kai should only be out for a few minutes, an hour at most." In a way, he felt sorry for her. He had trust issues with her but he didn't gain any pleasure from another individual's sorrow and disappointment.
It took them almost an hour to lug the huge wolf's body to the den. Opening the door, Hiruko peered in to check if Mira and the cubs were about. Judging by the darkened room and little signs of movement, they had gone out which was a relief to Hiruko as he didn't want to disturb them with a wounded (and now unconscious) wolf in his home. Hiruko was also unsure of letting guests into his home of whom he hadn't come to know very well. But there was little time for regrets.
Hiruko and Kiryu gently placed Kai onto a plump cushion, supporting his wounded leg mostly. "I'm just going to get the herbs. Seema, could you keep an eye on him please in case he comes to? Kiryu, theres some water in that sink over there. Perhaps if you dip your wing in it and flick it over him, he might help to wake him up gently."
He opened his draw that stored both fresh stack of herbs and pre-made herbal pastes. Luckily, he had a particular paste for the job already prepared since he used it for wounds often in past times. Hiruko grabbed the paste, soaked a cloth in some of the fresh water and brought it over to Kai's side. He pressed the damp cloth against the wound to clear it out and flush out any germs that may have entered it and then proceeded to rub the paste into the gash.

((Before Arriving At Hirukos Den)) Kiryu smiled at Seema, "it quietened him down" he said cheerfully. "Unless you've killed him..." he paused dramatically "in which case I vote we leave him" he teased. Looking back with a serious look in his eye, he met Seemas gaze "If you hadn't told me this was not your intention, I would have been none the wiser, provided of course you stopped blushing...." he moved onward, "I think it's for the best".
((Arriving At The Den)) After helping to lay Kai down, Kiryu stretched flexing and relaxing to limbering up for the journey. He moved over to the sink, raising his wing gracefully, dipping the tip into the water, the feathers becoming soaked by the water. He then flicked the wing at Kai letting the droplets rain upon the wolf.
He had never been into Hirukos den, he had stayed in the treetops once. Taking the time to examine his surroundings, noting any points of interest. He cupped his paws over the water, grabbing as much as he could before moving towards Kai, "I am nothing if not subtle" before dropping the water onto the wolf.

Seema half-smiled as she watched Kiryu's attempts to wake Kai. "Note to self - keep the Paralox away from the cubs!" she laughed, the mental image of Arty splashing his brothers in a similar manner flashing in her mind. Calming herself down, she approached the still unconscious Kurai carefully, examining the wound. "What did you have in mind, Hiruko?" she asked, pulling some of the matted fur away to see the cut more closely. "This wound has very rough, messy edges - I'm not sure how easy it would be to stitch up, and given the results of my last attempt to help I'm reluctant to try it." she stood, moving away from Kurai in case he awoke suddenly. "Bullet wounds and stab wounds are so much easier to clean up - nice, neat edges." she added, mainly to herself. Seema sat down to one side of the room, where she could keep an eye on Kurai and see Kiryu and Hiruko's attempts to help him. Opening her satchel again, she began looking back through her supplies - but short of stiches, all she really had the equipment to do was bandage up the leg and hope the pressure stopped the bleeding.

Kiryu watched Seema, she seemed to know more about medicine than he had anticipated, full of surprises. He flashed a brief smile, Kai was still unconscious, almost apologetically he ran his wing over the wolf, tussling up his fur and drying the effects from the water, leaving his fur standing briskly on end.
His own lack of knowledge in regards to minor injuries astonished him slightly, he knew far more about fatal injuries, ones that would leave the victim in agony, slice the victim in half, dice the victim, melt.... He shook his head, no more! Chiding himself mentally...
Kiryu moved over to Seema his episode making him feel older, "Whats in the pack?" he inquired, "anything to wake up sleeping beauty over there" pointing his paw towards Kai, his mind recoiled and he changed subjects "bullet and stab wounds?" he looked puzzled, "you were in a conflict? battles?" He sighed slightly, "women shouldn't be involved in war"
His thoughts returned to his days as a warrior, the pain, the suffering, the betrayal, No! Here and now Kiryu! Wallowing in self pity wouldn't help anything, "especially ones as..." he cut his sentence short, smiling feeling his cheeks redden just slightly, but noticeable on a silver fox.

Seema watched Kiryu bemusedly as he started to redden. "Ones as what?" she asked teasingly, a glint of warmth and softness in her usually stern expression. She was unsure where this conversation was going, and the control freak in her was screaming, but there was something warm and fluttery in the feeling of uncertainty, so she decided to see where it took her.
Realising that the rest of the conversation wouldn't just go away, she decided to address some of Kiryu's other comments and queries. Opening her medical pack, she showed Kiryu its contents. "The pack is just basics for trauma wounds - there's needles, thread, antibacterial lotion, bandages, paralox, gauze and scissors, but that's about it. Sadly nothing that will wake him up. And I think you'll find some women will surprise you when it comes to combat. I was top of my cadets class until I got shoved into nursing because I'm a woman." her tone sounded a little hurt, but mainly just sad.

Kiryu laughed nervously, "as interesting". As kind, as fun he thought. "It's not a conversation for the here and now", he whispered, flushing a little redder.
"When I said could you keep an eye out for herbs, I didn't realise you were a Doctor", he said truthfully. Reinforcing the little he knew about her, then why did he trust her so. "I can't argue there, you look like you can handle yourself in a fight" he sighed. "We're always in some sort of conflict, I don't believe women shouldn't be involved in war, no one should. I wish to spare the horrors of war from people I care about."

Realising there was very little to be gained by pursuing Kiryu's strange hints any further, Seema laughed, a hollow laugh. "War-torn home planet, whether you were in the military or not there was nobody spared the horrors. For the record I'm not a doctor, I'm a nurse - and I'm not exactly fantastic at that, if I'm honest, but it's all I know how to do other than cause trouble."
Seema watched Kurai closely, hoping he would wake soon - the longer he was unconscious, the bigger her mistake would seem, and the grumpier he was likely to be on waking up. "You can't stay unconscious forever, ya know" she said to Kurai, nudging his limp form. "It would reflect on me terribly. And we don't want that, do we?"

Out of the depths of the darkness, there were faint voices. Low mumbling conversations going on around him as Kurai gradually fought off the effects of the medicine that had knocked him out. His eyes barely open, some unknown room around him came into focus. There were a few blurry shadows standing over him too.
His senses came back to him one by one. First his vision, when he realised that it was Seema, Hiruko and Kiryu who were standing over him, from whom the sounds must be coming. Then the touch ... someone was touching, no massageing something strange-smelling into him. He could feel it. Moist and sticky. Come to think of it, he felt damp all over. Kurai turned his head slowly, his eyes opening a little more, until they fell on Hiruko. Hiruko was the one behind the sensation.
Then the pain came. A jolt shot up from his leg to his head in a flash and he was fully awake. Kurai cried out. It was not as bad as it had been before he blacked out, but whatever was being rubbed into the wound stung like mad. He clenched his teeth, having enough sense to stop shouting the profanities he so would have wanted to say if he did not have a cover to keep.
Beside Hiruko he saw the two foxes, who must have been the ones talking. "Urgh, where am I? And ..." Kurai looked himself over. His fur was pretty drenched for some reason. "why am I wet?" he said through his teeth. The fact is he knew exactly where he was, and he was delighted by his success. Now it was up to him to stay in the area for as long as possible. Looking for Seirei was the next top priority.
