Seirei stood on the edge of the cliff that curved around white beaches of coral bay. The sky was bright blue as it always was, yet far out to sea he could see a cluster of clouds hovering above a dark shadow on the horizon. What could it be?
Seirei turned his attention from the curious shadow and moved his eyes across the bay. He noticed the silhouette of a feline creature lazing around on the sand. He recognised that tail at once as Mira's. He called down to her from the cliff: "Mira? Will you come up here?"

Mira herself was sunning herself on the white sands of the bay. It was warm, but not terribly so, and like any feline, she did like to just lay in the sun every now and again. She was laying on her back, eyes closed with her legs curled close to her body. Her tail lay in a loose loop below her hind legs.
Mira opened one eye, but squinted as the sun hit it. Up above, standing on the cliffs, she could see a wolf with wings. Obviously it was Seirei, for it could be none other. She stood up, and called back to him, "All right, I'll be there in a few minutes." Quickly, she ran to the edge of the beach where the slope to the cliffs began, and made the steep trek up it, and was soon beside her friend.

Seirei smiled at his old friend as she came closer to stand beside him.
"I've been looking out to sea and I noticed something strange out there..." He pointed with his right paw. "What do you suppose it is? Want to take a closer look?"

She looked to where Seirei was pointing. Between the coast of Coral Bay, and the volcanic island known as Okela, was a stretch of darkness in the water. From this distance, Mira couldn't work out what it was. "A closer look? How?" she asked.

For Seirei the answer was simple of course, yet since the accident in the sky he hadn't taken anyone on his back. He stretched it out, the sun reflected off the deep pink scars that zigzagged across his spine. They were perfectly healed, but they would always be there as a constant reminder.
"We fly of course!" he grinned. "What do you say? Wanna go exploring like the old days?"

Mira laughed, remembering the old days when she and Seirei went flying around Tialka, just to see what was there, and to see if they could find anything new about the place. They hardly ever went south, though, which explains why they hadn't discovered Okela Island and the weird dark blob in the water before.
"Well, alright," said Mira, "but only if you are sure that your back will be fine carrying my weight." She eyed the scars on Seirei's back, wondering if they would pain him or not.

"It's okay, Mira, they don't hurt me anymore" he said as he saw Mira's eyes move to his back. He bent down onto his knees and spread out his wings wide so it was easier for her to climb on.

She sighed, mock-resignedly. "If you insist," she said, clambering onto her friend's back. "I'm ready, let's see what that blob thing is!" She was excited, Seirei and Mira hadn't been exploring in a long time. It's been too long, thought Mira.

Seirei grinned, Just like old times. He took a few steps back then ran towards the edge and kicked off into the air. Immediately they fell down towards the crashing waves against the rocks. Surprised, he beat his wings harder than usual and they gained height again.
"Hehe, sorry about that, Mira. It's been a while since i've been a taxi" he laughed. He soared on for a few minutes before they were at the edge of the "blob" they had been staring at.
"It's a ... what is it? It looks like seaweed, but it's enormous!"

Mira was surprised when they plummeted, and managed to hold on as well as keeping herself from screaming. She laughed at Seirei's joke when they were safely on a thermal, the sound lost in the wind.
As they reached the dark blob in the ocean, Mira peered down, hearing Seirei say, "It looks like seaweed, but it's enormous!"
"It's like a forest," said Mira. "A forest in the water... an Aqua Forest." She grinned. "Remember when we used to go exploring, and we always came up with names as soon as we discovered something new?" She shook her head.
"Come on, let's go lower, I want to have an even closer look..."

Seirei smiled at the name, it did indeed bring back memories of when they would discover something, and a name would just come to them like that. Even if it sounded cheesy at first, it would always stay that way and become part of their world. Seirei nodded at Mira's request and lowered them down several metres, down to where the trunks of the massive "trees" rose out of the water. He noticed that there was enough space between them to fly deeper into the forest. He flew slower, wings not as wide as they were before, carefulyy flying on.

Mira continued peering over Seirei's shoulder, watching as the thick seaweed-like trunks of the strange trees passed them by. The forest seemed to go on for miles and miles as Seirei swerved around the trees, the water below them. She couldn't help but look around them in awe.

Seirei found it harder to focus on where he was going as the light was blocked out more and more as they went further in. He was distracted now and then from his flight path as he gazed with Mira in astonishment at the strange trees of seaweed. Protruding from the trunks only a little further up were long tangly branches that looked sticky enough to stop them in their tracks if he wasn't careful. It was a long way down to fall, and he didn't like the idea of finding his way out of the darkness below.
Suddenly, an unexpected branch came out of nowhere, slapping Seirei right across the face and throwing his sideways where he crashed against a trunk. He slid down it, the wind knocked out of him, and screwed up his eyes, dreading the splash of water against his body - but he stopped falling. He opened his eyes and looked around him. Two branches were stuck to each wing.
"Perfect..."

Mira, not expecting the sudden lurch beneath her, tumbled off Seirei's back when an abrupt SLAP! sounded. She plummeted for a short while, waiting for the inevitable splash, which came quicker than she would have thought. Immersed in the water, she couldn't see Seirei. Puzzled, she surfaced, looking around for her friend. Not too far away, above her, Seirei had his wings trapped between two branches.
Swimming quickly, she made her way to the trunk of the tree where Seirei was caught. Thanking whatever had made snow leopards have retractable claws, she started climbing the slimy tree, slipping every now and then, but not falling. When she reached the level where Seirei was stuck, she carefully treaded her way on the branch. Looking down, she couldn't help but laugh.
Her usually dignified friend was hanging by the wings, utterly helpless.

Seirei couldn't help but smirk when Mira laughed at him. He didn't have a clue about how he was going to get free from the branches without landing in the water. He sighed, he guessed it was the only way. He started gnawing at the branch stuck to his left wing. However strong it was, it broke away easily with jsut a few bites and soon he swung lopsided, hanging on with just his right wing. It pulled at his back sharply and a flash of pain seared up his spine.
"Urrghh..a little help?"

Mira was still laughing when the branch she was standing on jerked upwards. Looking down, she saw that Seirei was still stuck, but he had managed to free himself of the branch she was on. "Here's you help," she said. "But brace yourself in case you fall into the waters below. It's surprisingly cold down there." Carefully, she created a dagger of ice, and controlled it to hack at the branch that was stuck to Seirei. With only a little effort, the branch broke, freeing the wolf.

Seirei tensed himself for the sudden release but he still wasn't prepared when his wing finally became free. He plummeted down towards the dark water in less than 2 seconds, the freezing cold surface smacking against his side as he plunged through the waves. It took him a few moments to break the surface again, it would have taken longer if the sea wasn't so calm. He tried to keep his wings out of the water, he wouldn't be able to fly if they were wet. He shook the feathers rapidly, drying them off in no time at all. Soon, he was able to lift himself out of the water and hover just above the surface.
"Phew.."

"You okay down there?" Mira called as Seirei settled into a hover after he had dried his wings. Gracefully, she dived into the water so that she could talk to her friend without making her voice hurt. That, and she wanted an excuse to be in the water. "It's very secluded here, isn't it," she said conversationally. "It would do well as a hiding place for others..."
