A couple of weeks had passed since Kurai had purposefully injured his leg. It had given him time to lie low at Seema's home. He could now put almost all his weight on it, and had been able to take part more and more in hunts with Seema, and sometimes by himself. As basic as her den was was, it had given Kurai what he had needed: shelter and proximity to his brother. Unable to go out by himself, he had spent days on end pouring over a map of Tialka which Seema had drawn up for him. He had taken special interest in the details of the forest, or rather Lacina Forest, as he had been made aware. Names were not of much significance to him.
He spent all the hours in the spare room, memorising and then rememorising the distances to and from the residencies of the Tialkans that lived in the forest: Hiruko's den being the closest, and then a long path which wound up to his brother's den. It was not as far as he had feared. It would make it easier to move the pups from the den to Seema's inconspicuously. Kurai knew that he would have to stick to Seema's side of the bargain - at the beginning at least - so that she would carry out her promise to him.
Kurai had thought out the first few stages of the operation in his head. Distract Tersias, take the pups away, causing her to come after them. Or at least make her upset enough to leave the safety of her home so that Seema could then 'look after' the pups as he moved in. That would leave Seirei alone and worried. Kurai chuckled to himself. No, he wouldn't like that at all ... He looked up suddenly when he heard familiar footsteps outside his room. "Seema!" he called through his door. "Come in here. We need to have a discussion."

Seema had to restrain herself from sighing. She had just returned from a walk, and had been hoping to get back in without Kurai noticing. But there was no use in crying over spilt milk.
Quickly stepping into her own room, she took off her satchel and scarf, laying them on her bed. She took a few deep breaths, trying to ensure she was calm and controlled before she faced Kurai - fear was not a luxury one could afford when dealing with such a character.
Grabbing a flask of water on her way back through the living room, she entered the spare room, which Kurai had ensconced himself of late, and pulled across a bale of hay to sit on.

"Good. Sit." Kurai said shortly. He wanted to get down to business right away. This had been his obsession since the early days of his banishment from his own clan. He was now somewhat excited that it would happen soon.
"We need to make final arrangements. The plan will fail if we do not stick to the last detail with efficiency and tact." He pointed at the map with a claw, not caring that he made a mark in the paper. "Now, we are here, which is luckily a short distance from our dear siblings here," he said with another jab at the map. "Now, unless there is any disturbance from the Hiruko residence which lies in between us and them, which I am fairly certain there won't be, seeming as I have observed that the tiger spends most of his time away with that mate of his, the transportation of the five pups will go ahead unhindered."
He looked at Seema at that point, to make sure she was following. "I charged you with the task a while back to make sure that your sister is not entirely satisfied with her lot, that is to say, with my brother Seirei's actions. I trust that she is not feeling one hundred percent happy?" He looked at Seema again, but did not wait for a reply, now deeply into his planning. "Well, your final task will be to ensure that, somehow, the white vixen must leave the den long enough for the pups to be left in your care back here, in this tree," he gestured at the map again, "so that I can make my move on Seirei."
Kurai took a deep breath after his lengthy conversation. Seema did not look very happy with the arrangements, but he knew that he had her in his paw, and that she had little choice in whether she complied or not. "I suggest," he went on, "that the plan must be carried out at night, so we know that the family will be together. Do you understand, Seema?"

Seema couldn't bring herself to respond out loud. This whole affair was something she found thoroughly disgusting and she just did not even want to think about it, but if she wanted to keep her family safe she would have to play along for now. So, she simply nodded. Her head was swimming. How on earth could she carry on with this and keep her family safe? Options seemed very limited, but she needed to find some.

"Good," Kurai said again. "I suggest that tomorrow you spend the day round your sister's den, to put you into position. I will be waiting close by. When you are certain that the timing is ready, you must come out and give me a quick signal, a generous wave of your tail would do, as long as it's obvious. Then it will be time to go ahead with the first stages, that is, causing a disturbance strong enough to separate my brother from your sister and the pups."
He gestured for Seema to leave, then changed his mind. He called to the silver fox as she turned to leave, causing her to look back. Kurai had that strange smile on his face, the one that looked like it did not belong on his deformed muzzle. "Thank you for all your hard work. I appreciate it," he said sweetly. "Looks like, by tomorrow evening, we'll both get what we always wanted." He gave Seema one final smile, before turning away to look out the window of the spare room, where he began to sing to himself. There once were two brothers who grew apart, to separate worlds they fled. Poor little Seirei, poor little brother, soon you'll be the one who's dead ... he cackled gleefully.

Seema found it very difficult to stomach Kurai behaving nicely. It just seemed against nature, and made her feel nauseos. She simply nodded to him and returned to her own room, staring out of the window desperately.
What on earth am I going to do? Seema thought frantically. I can't go through with this... I just have to hope Kiryu will be where he promised he would be. For everyone's sakes...
