Hiruko sat in his tree den with a fire crackling a short distance away from him. His eyes flickered as they grew heavy with sleep but he did not want to sleep yet, it was too early. The afternoon sun was creating warm tones that filled the land with a pink champagne glow and staring out of the window of the den kept Hiruko from falling into a short nap.

Mira entered the home that she now shared with Hiruko. Although she preferred the cold mountainside, she would much rather be with the one she loved. Mira did visit her cave a lot during daylight hours, but she spent her evenings and nighttimes with Hiruko.
"Evening, my love," she greeted him softly, nuzzling his neck. "How have you been?"

Hiruko arose to full alertness when he saw his love walk softly into the room. "Mira!" he beamed and walked over to her, embracing her in his arms and wrapping his tail round her. He purred loudly. "I have been...very sleepy," he chuckled sweetly. "But now that you're here, I will make a better effort not to be so rude! Here..." He pulled up a wicket chair filled with cushions in front of her. "Would you like some sweet tea?" he said getting up and taking a jar that was filled with a honey-coloured liquid.

Mira giggled as she took a seat. "Hiruko, I've told you before not to spoil me so much," she said, making herself comfy. "You need pampering every now and then, too." She paused. "But yes, I would like some tea." She smiled, her ice blue eyes shining.

Hiruko chuckled. "I would do anything for you, my lovely. And besides, I don't feel the need to be pampered, I have everything I need right here." He poured the sickly sweet mixture into a bowl like glass and handed it to her. He then poured one for himself and began sipping the mixture. "I saw Kiba today," he said to her. "Him and Shiro. It was nice to speak to them again."

"Really?" said Mira, taking a sip of the tea. "How have they been? I haven't seen them for quite a while," she added. "Where did you see them?"

"Yeah, we met at Okela Island and decided to go for a quick hunt," he told her. "They are both how I remember them." Hiruko played with the tuft of fur above her forehead then playfully nibbled at her ear. "I really do love you, Mira," he said with a glint in his eye. "Seeing Seirei's family all growing up makes me realise that it's something to look forward to in the future. Destiny brought us together and I just want you to be as happy and comfortable as we can possibly be."

Mira beamed up at Hiruko, nuzzling against him gently. "I am glad they are doing well," she said, talking about both the twins and Seirei's family. She paused. "Maybe one day, it will be our own family that we will watch growing up. Whenever that may occur, I want us both to be happy and ready." A soft blush appeared on her cheeks as she spoke.
((Woo! 1000th Post!!!))

"But of course, depending on your bloodline, we may not have as many cubs as Tersias and Seirei," he told her. "In my family, only one or two young Torakans are born at a time. We have a very high mortality rate so a large number of cubs isn't necessary." Thinking about his own background, Hiruko thought about Mira and how little he knew about her. But he was afraid to ask. "So...what about your family?"

Mira looked at him, wondering how to phrase it. "Back on my home planet, snow families only ever have one or two cubs, and not necessarily at the same time. Occasionally families may have three, but it's rare and more often than not, the third cub dies. We've not yet found out the reason why." She paused, thinking more about her own family. "My parents tried to have a second cub, but they miscarried, so I do not hold out much hope for more than one," she finished quietly.

Hiruko sat is silence with a feeling of sorrow for Mira. Her family life previously had sounded harsh, like a fight for survival. Hiruko wished that he could have gotten on better with his own brother but he had tried and Hayashi's jealousy proved too great to puncture. He wanted children of his own, and he wanted them to both get on rather than become rivals like himself and Hayashi. "There is some hope though," Hiruko said cheerfully, patting a paw on her back. "My bloodline is strong and will help with yours. And this land! It's so fresh and healthy. It will help you to bear healthy newborn cubs."

Mira's sorrowful face from telling her story broke back into a smile as Hiruko spoke. "We shall have to wait and see," she replied, rubbing herself up against Hiruko's chest. "But I hope you're right and that we shall have healthy cubs."

Hiruko purred as she rubbed against his chest, an intimate gesture of sharing each others scent, that Hiruko belonged to her. He returned it but rubbing his cheek against the side of her neck, purring loudly. He licked her forehead softly and stared into her blue eyes that although appeared to be the colour of ice, they were warmer than any other creature's that he had seen in his entire life. "I love you," he whispered.

As her eyes locked with Hiruko's bright green ones, there was a connection between them, like there always was. "I love you too," she replied softly, feeling her emotions swell up inside her heart and through her body. She leaned forward, putting her face close to his, an intimate gesture from her home world - the sharing of one anothers' breath.

As the sun set, the evening was becoming more and more magical. The fireflies emerged to light the evening and the moonlight glimmered through the window. Mira and Hiruko lay comfortably side by side and stared into one another's eyes. It was good to be back to the days Hiruko remembered and he couldn't believe he was finally spending a long evening with her without any disruptions. This was their time and only theirs. Time seemed to stop and at that moment, they both realised...they were ready to be a family.
