Mira smiled at her friends. She liked it when newcomers arrived, new faces were always welcome. It was odd, however, that Kai had the same name as Tersias' son. She would have questioned it, but didn't feel it to be the right time. "Well," she said after a small pause in conversation. "I think we should let Kai rest for now." She scooped up her cubs. "It's time for me to be heading back anyway," she added.

On Mira's leave, Hiruko decided to join her. "I'm going with Mira," he told them. "Nice to meet you Kai, see you later Tersias!" He waved at them and walked away by Mira's side. "May I?" he said offering to take one of the cubs. He held Lios in his arms who still had his eyes fused shut. It would only be a matter of days before they were able to open their eyes. He wondered what colour they would be; would they be icy blue like their mothers? Or would they inherit his own earthy coloured eyes?
Getting back to reality, Hiruko thought hard about the new arrival. Making sure they were now a fair distance out of hearing range, Hiruko decided to get some thoughts on the new arrival from Mira. "So, what do you think about the newcomer, Kai?" he asked curiously but held no hint as to his own opinion.

"He's... interesting," she said finally. "I'm not quite sure what to think of him. He was looking at our cubs earlier, and something worried me." Mira shook her head. "I want to believe the best in people, but I don't think I can if they constantly worry me when they're around Lios and Lena, or even Seirei and Tersias' cubs."

"Hmmm..." Hiruko mumbled. If even Mira had a bad feeling, something was wrong. "We shall have to keep an eye on him. I don't care if he's around me or Seirei, but I worry for you females and the cubs. You are particularly vulnerable at the moment, Mira. Don't forget that."

"So long, thanks for the help!"
Kurai watched the felines walk away into the distance, their silhouettes growing fainter the further they went. The little white fox was still on the beach but Kurai wasn't interested and he turned his focus back to the small cave he had finished preparing. Having dusted away the rubble and stray strands of seaweed from a dented boulder that was fixed to the cave wall, Kurai curled his body up like he always did to stay warm and closed his eyes. Tomorrow, exploring and exploitation, he thought to himself, smiling in his sleep.
