Having momentarily left his friends and family back in Lacina Forest, amongst all the rubble, the result of the chaos, Seirei had dragged the barely conscious Kurai through the forest south, leaving the trees behind to cross the vast meadow. The tired wolf doggedly plodded on, heaving his large brother, still bound in Nat's bonds, behind him, taking no care over any bumps or scrapes along the way.
He knew where he had to go. The pit in the middle of the meadow had not been inhabited for several months, its last prisoner of course being Hayashi, now their latest ally. Strange how some people change ... Seirei thought to himself as he reached the large hole in the ground and peered over the edge. The pit itself was not very wide, having been built for only one in the past, yet it was deep enough to make the largest of creatures look like ants when they were at the bottom.
Hiruko had built it well, and it had served its original purpose. Now it must serve another. Not bothering to undo the ropes which restricted his movements, Seirei nudged Kurai into the pit. It took several seconds until he heard the 'thud' against the ground, a sign that Kurai had hit the bottom. The black wolf emitted a small groan.
He'll still remain alive, at least, Seirei thought. Who knows? I might even pay him a visit now and then, to see how the years of guilt and memories affect him. As doubtful as he was, Seirei sincerely hoped a life in solitary confinement would bring back the old Kurai he knew in their younger years. He never wanted their fraternity to end this way. They were inseparable, and now they were as far apart as they would ever be. Squinting down into the darkness, Seirei could see Kurai had regained a little more consciousness; his crumpled figure was shifting around a bit at least.
"Better to be safe than sorry, brother," he muttered. Closing his eyes in concentration, Seirei applied the technique which Mylar had taught the founders, the technique to access the energy of their world and to channel it through their bodies. Now! Seirei commanded, and an immense burst of lightning fell to earth, forming a grid of powerful electricity and light over the top of the pit. Only a founder would have the power to disperse the grid. If Kurai ever grew strong enough to climb up, the grid would fry his flesh and send him hurtling back down into the darkness.
Now panting heavily, a result of the energy he had just used up combined with the several injuries he had acquired only an hour ago, Seirei gave one final look at the pit, and then turned to walk back into the forest, free of a burden that had been on his shoulders for years.
