Nat was roaming the coarse terrain of the volcano on Okela Island, though it was very different from the sandy waves of the desert where she lived. From the forest below, she heard rustling. Reverting instantly to a defensive stance, she growled. "Who goes there?" A shadow made its way towards her, a mixture of black, grey and electric blue. The wolf, walking on its hind legs, seemed to struggle. No wonder, for he had shackles on his paws and neck. Nat recognised him immediately, remembering the pictures Kiba had given her when she had first arrived.
"You're Koatia!" she snarled, lips curling backwards.
"Well, well," he said, his voice sounding like sandpaper. "You are observant, aren't you?"
"Why are you here?!" she shouted.
To her surprise, he merely made a tutting noise. "Tsk, tsk. Not very polite though, are you?" he asked rhetorically. "I was merely going to ask if you could help me."
"Why would I help YOU?" she retorted. As if she would ever help such an evil brute.
"Because maybe the rest of them are wrong? It's all a horrible mix up? Hiruko must have been spreading rumours about me, am I right?"
Nat paused. There was an element of truth she couldn't deny. Yes, she had been told he was evil - but couldn't people be wrong?
"See, you've already thought it." He looked her up and down. "Hmm, you are an attractive one, aren't you?"
"What?" She had been caught off guard at his comment. Nobody had ever called her attractive before. She eyed him suspiciously. "Are you serious?"
"Why, of course I am," he replied huskily. He reached out a paw, stroking under her chin. "You are also powerful. I have seen your powers." He smiled at her, regarding her through his good eye.
"Um. Thank... you?" she said, not sure what to make of this encounter. Suddenly, she realised that he wasn't here just to make small talk. "What do you want?" Nat asked, reaffirming her defenses.
"I was only hoping you'd help a wolf out with... these," he gestured to the shadowy chains on him. "Maybe a power such as yours would be able to, oh... break them?"
Nat looked at him, wondering whether she should, or not. Most of the Tribe would probably kill her if they knew. I just won't let them find out, she thought. Closing her eyes in concentration, she caused the shadowy chains to disintergrate, and then go completely out of existence.
Koatia rolled his muscles, satisfied. "Thank you, er ..." he struggled to think of her name.
"It's Nat," she supplied, feeling a little guilty. She quickly squashed that down as Koatia smiled at her.
"Thank you, Nat," he said, and licked her muzzle. He let a small chuckle out as she blushed, but his face turned serious when he heard a rustle in the forest. "I must go," he said. "Hopefully, this will not be the last we shall meet, Nat. Goodbye."
Nat stood, stunned as she watched him runn speedily off into the horizon. Meanwhile, to her side, yet another shadow appeared in the dense forest of Okela Island.
