It was evening. The moon was full and shone a bright flare of silver over the tops of the trees and floor. Crickets were clicking their wings tunefully and fireflies lit the darkest of shadows with warm, golden sparks. Hiruko was sitting in a tall tree, his tail flicking from side to side. There was evil lurking in far off places but somehow, this didn't seem to matter.
After winning Mira's heart - and Mira winning his heart in return - all worries seemed to disappear into the shadows of the world from whence they came. Hiruko could only smile happily as he thought about all the good things in the world that were worth fighting for.

Mira, humming an old Feline Song that spoke of love, was walking below Hiruko's very tree, ignorant that he was there. She had a small smile on her face, despite Tialka being on the verge of war. Her coat shone slightly in the moonlight.

"Mira," Hiruko whispered and patted the branch with his hand as a gesture to call her attention. "Come up here with me." He smiled and his green eyes were filled with the silver moonlight liquid.

She looked up, almost startled, but quickly made her way to sit next to her love. She sighed. "It's been a while since we've had a quiet moment, not on edge, hasn't it?" she asked, leaning on Hiruko.

Hiruko's smile widened as Mira moved closer to him. The warmth and softness of her fur felt so gentle against his own. "Yes, I agree," he said staring straight into her icy blue eyes. "If only Koatia could experience what love feels like, perhaps he would forget about his evil plans. Even my brother, as heartless as he is, knows what love is and what it stands for." Hiruko stared into space as he thought about his brother. They used to be so close until the day he became a God. Now they were barely alike. "But I don't care anymore," Hiruko said, breaking the silence that was leading to questions. "I have you now and you are all I ever want. And we couldn't have picked a nicer evening to spend some time together. The fireflies truly make the night more beautiful than it's ever been. Well, excluding your presence that is."

Mira laughed. "Flatterer," she mock-scolded, but with a smile on her face. She licked Hiruko's cheek. "And you are everything I could ever have dreamed of, and more." She smiled up at him. "Love is a powerful thing, Hiruko. It will always conquer whatever is in its way." Mira's tail entwined itself with Hiruko's. "I also discovered that if you touch either of our crystals at Skalakruh, they both will glow. Do you think it means anything?"

Hiruko closed his eyes in contentment but soon opened them to stare at Mira. He didn't want to miss a moment with her. "Hmm, I can't be sure," Hiruko said, thinking. "Perhaps Skalakruh is a pathway to the heart of this world. And since we have crystals to show that we are bound to this earth for all eternity, maybe they are sensitive to certain feelings such as love. After all, I have bound myself to you now emotionally for all eternity."

"And I am bound to you," she replied fondly. "I wouldn't have it any other way..." Mira leaned against him, her eyes closed in happiness. Despite war, love would always come out on top, she was certain. Though what he had said about Skalakruh being part of the heart of Tialka started making her think. Questions like, 'Why is Skalakruh there?' and 'Will it be important in the future?' began to run around in her head.
