Hiruko was taking a stroll in the meadow after meeting two new arrivals on Tialka. Mylar had gone back to rest as he had suddenly felt weak and sickly. He must have come down with something, Hiruko thought.
As he walked through the grass and tiny, colourful flowers, the sky suddenly darkened as if a storm was approaching. How strange... Hiruko thought. Storms don't usually approach this fast.
The clouds were grey and gloomy, and an unsettling chill ran down his spine as he saw a quick flash of blue lightning. Koatia... Sure enough, Koatia's figure flashed into view and Hiruko stood on guard, waiting for an attack. His enemy did not attack, only walked closer and closer until he stood only a few metres away.
"Are you just going to stand there and glare at me or are you going to welcome me back to my full power?" Koatia grinned, jagged teeth showing through a cold, crooked smile. Hiruko replied with silence before he spoke. His hatred had risen to an uncontrollable level as he began to spring into action.
"I will do neither, for I will kill you!" Hiruko launched at the giant wolf but before he could land a hit, something solid knocked him to the floor. As soon as he regained his senses, he looked up at Koatia. He hadn't even moved. Instead he saw a new figure: a solid, black creature resembling a panther yet with serpent like features and movement. It was furless and had burning electric-blue eyes, wide and without pupils. It's paws had claws long and deadly, it was a creature Hiruko had never seen before.
Before Hiruko could even establish what or where it came from, the creature made a noise that was a mixture between a hiss and a growl and swiftly pounced at Hiruko.

Mira, who was back at home with the cubs (who were taking a nap) and Mylar (who didn't look well), stopped in her tracks as the golden ring that sat at the base of her tail went ice cold. Despite it never happening before, she knew exactly what it meant.
"Hiruko!" she blurted out, already running to the exit. She ran out of the forest in what she thought was a random direction, but upon seeing several figures in the distance, she realised that something had ensured her arrival.
She saw Hiruko get knocked down by - What is that? - before being pounced on. Not caring for her own safety or her usual morals on fighting, she focused her powers. A large shard of ice, ragged in her haste, appeared in front of her and sailed through the air towards the creature.

Meanwhile, Seirei had been working on the finishing touches of his family's new home underground on the edge of the meadow closest to Lacina Forest. His mate Tersias had taken their five pups on an outing to the coast, as a reward for all their help during the move. Seirei had offered to stay behind and keep working on their new den. He could not believe how fast they had grown in a year, and could not be prouder. All of them were now a couple of inches taller than their little mother, even Artemis, who had been the smallest.
Working over a piece of wood, Seirei's keen ears pricked up suddenly, and he stopped what he was doing to listen more closely. There was definitely movement on the surface above, and not too far away. From what he could make out without seeing, he detected at least three or four, not enough to be his family returning home at any rate. He jumped a little when one particular thump on the ground made the ceiling shake, puffs of powdery soil floating down above his head. Now very concerned, Seirei ran out of the room he was in, down a side passage, and then sprinted down the long uphill tunnel towards the entrance hole.
He blinked in confusion at the darkness when he reached outside. It could not possibly be night time yet, not with the days getting longer. He looked above him to see menacing grey clouds swarming in a most unnatural purpley-black sky. That is not the sky I know and created ... he thought, before a sudden cry from a familiar voice turned his head to the right. Seirei's keen eyes made out the white fur of Mira dashing away from the forest towards a cluster of silhouettes to the east. Not thinking out of concern for his friends, Seirei forgot about his ability of flight and dashed away, following Mira.

The unknown creature was taken down by the ice shard that Mira had conjured, piercing it through the shoulder. It fell to the ground, hissing and writhing around on the floor until the ice shattered. There was a terrible gash from the shard but the black creature crouched as if ready to pounce and revealed its long, pointed fangs.
As Mira came close, Hiruko thanked her with a nod but stood away from her a little so that she would not be targeted. He was perfectly aware that she could take care of herself but Hiruko still felt he should protect her.
Koatia's grin had turned to a scowl when he saw Mira and then Seirei's figure approaching. He howled the same spine-chilling howl that Hiruko had heard early and within seconds, more of the dark creatures were appeared from the soil. At first they did not seem solid, as if they were made from black smoke but within moments, their solid figure had formed and were ready to attack the three Founders.

Seirei reached the fight in a matter of seconds, and a loud growl from his throat blended with the rumbles of thunder as he spotted the unmistakeable face of Koatia. The Founders and Mylar had predicted that he would make his move soon, and now this sudden appearance proved them right.
Seirei had seen Mira make the first wave of the attack against the unknown shadow creatures that Koatia was somehow able to summon, and grew concerned as more and more were appearing out of thin air, grouped in clusters around Hiruko and his mate. Wasting no time, Seirei quickly joined the action to lighten the load for his friends. His big size was an advantage as he dashed towards a group of five or six of the creatures. He knocked two down with his big front paws, which fell down with a puff of black smoke ... but then reappeared seconds later.
Seirei had thought his foe was easily defeatable, but had not accounted for the strong dark magic behind them. Suddenly he felt three or four clamber on top of him from behind, and then more latched themselves onto one of his wings, pulling his body down towards the ground on his left side. He tried to stand, but the creatures continued to pin him down, the ratio of those reappearing larger than the ones he could defeat.

Mira stood ready to defend her mate, her family, and her home. But as more of the strange creatures began to appear, she felt her defiance wane. There are so many, she thought to herself, looking around her. Before she had a chance to react, Seirei had attacked. She watched in horror as the numbers of their enemies grew and pinned her friend down.
"NO!" she screamed as they clawed at him, but found herself also knocked to the ground by another creature. Despite the surprise, she rolled over, gaining both distance and an actual fighting chance. Mira jumped to her paws, snarling from deep in her throat.
The one which had attacked her was larger than she, and was being joined by more at its sides. Five of them advanced menacingly, making Mira retreat slowly. She thought of her options.
Using her power with the blink of an eye, she engulfed three of them in a sphere of water, hoping to drown them. The two remaining leaped out of the way of the giant ball where their comrades swam, trying to reach the surface. Turning their heads to Mira, they snarled, and sprung.

Hiruko watched in horror as he saw his friends pinned by the darklings. As he ran to help them both, one pounced onto his back, causing him to fall flat onto his belly. He turned to throw the creature off which rolled sideways before trying to pounce at him again. With one mighty swing, he threw his clenched fist into the face of the one that attacked him and that's when he heard the piercing screech. The creature howled and hissed in pain before shaking it off, now angrier than ever. Backing off slightly, Hiruko looked towards Koatia who stood silently grinning. I must find a way to get to him, Hiruko thought. If we attack Koatia, perhaps these horrid creatures will disappear.
Looking back, he saw two of the creatures ripping at Seirei's wings. Feathers and fur were flying everywhere in a desperate scrap as Seirei tried to break free. Hiruko used his energy ball attack to blast the two off of Seirei's wings so that he could use them as a weapon and more easily maneuver his attacks. He then turned to Mira who was being overwhelmed by them. Hiruko ran as fast as he could towards her before the creature that had attacked him swept in front of him, between himself and his beloved. "Mira!!" he screamed out. He knew she was strong but there were too many...

Seirei braced himself when he saw the ball of light hurtling towards him out of the corner of his eye, unable to turn his head due to being restrained by the dark creatures. In a flash he felt the weight on top of him lessen significantly. Thanking Hiruko in his head, from whom the energy ball had doubtlessly originated, he took his chance and thrust open his wings to their full span, sending half a dozen darklings flying in all directions, yelping in surprise.
His short temper had blown its fuse. He wasn't playing anymore. With a powerful kick of his legs he shot up into the air, and into the canopy of thundery clouds above. He started to swish his tail round, and round, and round, faster and faster, until his tail was glowing with the electrical energy of the lightning. With great effort he took aim and hurtled a pink lightning bolt down at the host of darklings where he had once lain.
"Take that, you villains!" he roared.

The serpent like creature creeped closer to him, ready to pounce. Hiruko could only watch as Mira struggled by herself. Seirei had finally broken free and taken care of the creatures attacking him with a powerful attack. The shudder and noise startled the creature blocking Hiruko which allowed him to take a blow to the creatures chest. Writhing and screeching in pain, Hiruko took a leap onto the creature's chest and whilst holding it down, conjured an energy ball that blasted the darkling in the face. The darkling screamed before melting into a puff of black smoke.
With this one out of the way, he began helping Mira. Two of the creatures had seen what had happened to the previous darkling that had attacked Hiruko and stopped snapping at Mira to pounce at him. Hiruko quickly swung at one, hitting it in the belly and then took another swing to knock the other in the chin. Whilst still dazed, this gave him enough time to throw off one of the darklings that had Mira by the tail whilst wrestling another that was previously on her chest.
Koatia watched from a short distance, a frown upon his ugly muzzle. A toothy grin soon followed as this was merely a game compared to what powers he would soon unleash upon them.

While Mira had been distracted by the two darklings that had been approaching her, and watched them attack Hiruko instead, she was pounced on by another two that had materialised behind her. As one bit into a section of her tail, she recoiled in shock, baring her side and allowing the second to swipe at her belly. The pain that blossomed as the claws raked her skin and blood stained her coat caused her to lose concentration on her powers. The water sphere fell and splashed on the ground, releasing the three very wet, but still very much alive, darklings.
Hiruko bat off the darklings attacking her, and she fell to the floor. She took a second to glance at her wound - thankfully, it was shallow. She quickly washed it with a burst of magic and a snarl of pain. She twisted around to face the three that had been encased in her water prison, and growled deeply.
Using the water that had once been a sphere, she created icicles, sharp and deadly. She directed them towards her enemy and let loose. The icy shrapnel hit its mark, each bolt burying itself deep into the darklings' skin. They yelped and hissed in pain, and the one in the middle caught several in an eye. It collapsed and, as it hit the ground, dissipated into smoke.

Seirei continued to circle the sky and observed how the battle was progressing. They were starting to gain the upper hand against the darkling creatures, although all three of the founders were showing signs of exhaustion by this point. Seirei looked over at Koatia, standing a short distance away from the mayhem which he created. His initial look of glee had turned into a frown of disappointment. No doubt he underestimated the capabilities of his foes. It wouldn't be too long until the darklings would fail, and the attention would turn upon Koatia himself.
Seirei swiftly flew back down to earth near Mira. She looked in control of her position; her skills in elemental magic having greatly helped her defence. He noticed her wound. It wasn't too bad, but they couldn't afford to lose physical strength if they were to truly win the fight. Seirei himself was feeling pretty sore. His wings had taken a battering, and his fur was covered in holes and bites from where he had been pinned down by the dark creatures. Seirei looked over at Hiruko, still fighting off his share of them, and then over at Koatia again. "It's going to take a lot of power ..." he muttered to himself.

As Hiruko destroyed the remaining two that had attacked Mira, he looked around to see only Koatia standing a few metres from them, now defenceless (at least more than he was before) without the creatures slowing their progress. 'Now is our chance,' Hiruko said to his friends. But before they could even make even one step towards him, Koatia howled deeply. Lightning crackling around him as more of the creatures pulled themselves out of the ground. Hissing and growling, they trembled with anticipation, awaiting for Koatia's commands. Hiruko sighed, if this continued, they wouldn't be able to keep it up for very long. 'Ive got an idea..' Hiruko said, turning to Seirei and Mira. 'It's time to test out our hidden power.' Placing his paw out, he signalled the others to do the same. In his head, he began chanting the words Mylar had taught them:
'Oh Founders from the distant skies, Protect what lays before one's eyes. Bring Wind and Water, Earth and Ice, The ancient powers strong in thrice.
With light and strength, we cleanse the land, from waters deep to scorching sand. The evil lurks with minds untame, Return the dark from whence it came.'
Hiruko could feel the power welling within him, changing his appearance and filling his body with the strength of the land. He was prepared.

As all three of the founders turned their backs to Koatia and huddled in a little triangle, Seirei prayed that he wouldn't be able to see what was coming. They were quite a distance from him, and what with the sea of newly summoned darklings, it was probable that he was waiting for the creatures to finish the job for him and couldn't see what was happening. Either that, or he was enjoying toying with them far too much to get his paws dirty.
"This'll surprise him," Seirei said quietly with a smile, as he closed his eyes in concentration Positioning himself, he placed his left front paw on Hiruko's right, and his right front paw on Mira's left. Focussed, just like the first time they tried this at Skalakruh, the familiar sensation of the world's power coursed through his body, filling his muscles with strength, heightening his senses. He opened his eyes, and had to quickly squint at the glare of the glorious golden-white light that formed the founders' new silhouettes. Seirei's fur had turned snowy white, his paws and tail of a more golden hue, matching his eyes.
Seirei looked over at the dark creatures. "Light against dark, rather fitting don't you think?" he said to his two friends, who looked equally splendid. Koatia's face turned sour when he saw the sudden glow of light from his foes. "I was going to let them die quickly, but now I shall have to deal with them myself," he snarled. "Where did they obtain such powerful magic as this?" He clasped the powerful stone around his neck - the Kumorishi. "Only I have the power, how dare they challenge me."

Spotting Koatia's curiosity, Hiruko smirked. His eyes glowed emerald green, staring straight back at his enemy and the multiple of minions he had summoned. "Very fitting," Hiruko said in reply to Seirei whose own eyes shone gold. The creatures hissed and spat with tongues flicking and claws flexing. On Koatia's command, they ran towards the trio, all of them transformed into a coat of white with shining eyes. Surprisingly, Koatia roared and also raced towards the founders behind the line of black creatures. Hiruko's changed his stance in preparation for battle: legs spread apart, arms and fists raised against his chest as he began to conjure an energy ball that sucked in the very life force of the earth.
"Ready?" Hiruko said to his partners. He didn't need to look at them to know they were prepared.

Mira felt a sense of relief as the power of Tialka surged through her, turning her coat whiter than she could ever imagine, and healing her wounds. When she opened her eyes, she knew they were glowing an icy blue. Her fear was gone, replaced by determination and courage.
She smiled as Seirei and Hiruko exchanged words, and watched as Hiruko prepared his attack. Mira opted to do the same, unsheathing her claws and grinning ferally. She formed more icicle bolts which floated in the air around her.
"Ready," Mira confirmed.

The three founders stood side by side, ready to greet the host of darkness before them. Filled with Tialka's power their magic capabilities were formidable, elements ready to combine into one almighty attack, one true power. Seirei breathed in deeply, stretched out his wings, and held them poised, the feathers crackling with electric anticipation. The air around him started to circle as he gathered it under his wings in preparation for their powerful assault. "Ready here, too," he said. The dark body of darklings were approaching nearer and nearer, their master close behind. "Altogether?"

Hiruko nodded. He was ready to fight in his new form, but how had the Kumorishi affected Koatia? As the creatures approached, Hiruko thrust the energy ball to the left side of the line and an explosion erupted as three of the darklings flew into the air from the impact. Immediately afterwards, he hit the ground with a clenched paw causing a ripple of shock waves to thrust towards many of the others. They fell like dominoes before coming to Koatia who leaped over them to get to the Founders. Hiruko blasted another energy ball in Koatia's direction which appeared to hit him as soil and dust engulfed him but he still emerged from the dirt unscathed. They were in for their toughest challenge yet.

Mira opened fire, sending icicles towards her foes and shattered upon impact, leaving heavy shards in their limbs and faces. Simultaneously she sent a wave crashing from the sky, courtesy of several nearby clouds, flattening more darklings into the ground. Mira noticed Koatia advancing, Hiruko's attack, and the evil wolf emerging unscathed. Growling, she sent tendrils of her magic into the ground, seeking sources of water. She could feel it, lying dormant in the plants and roots surrounding them. Grinning, she began to manipulate the water inside them, bringing them through the earth and sending them towards Koatia.
