Hiruko awoke next to Mira, his tail wrapped around her body which was curled into a furry ball. She was sleeping soundly, only her breathing could be heard through the silence.
Hiruko yawned, it was already past dawn but outside was overcast and the clouds covered the sun for what would be a rainy day. This didn't bother Hiruko in the slightest, he liked the rain and so did Mira due to her affinity with water. Despite this however, there was something dark about the overcast clouds that were drifting above. Perhaps a storm? Hiruko thought. He quickly put it out of his mind as he had other things to worry about: Mira in particular. She had been sleeping for well over twelve hours and even before that, she had been drowsy and fatigued. He hoped she wasn't become sick. But since there was nothing he could do at that point in time, he hugged her close to his body to keep her warm.

Mira stirred in her sleep, shifting her body into a more comfortable position. Inside of her, something else stirred. So small and so unknown, that it would be hard to believe that this particular something could be so magnificent.
She turned around, her eyes opening slightly. Her vision gave her a blurry sight of Hiruko, wrapped around her. A smile spread on her face until she saw beyond him and through the window. The darkness of rain loomed, but inside that lurked something different, scaring Mira.
"There's something wrong with the sky," she whispered, both to Hiruko and herself, not moving her eyes away. It wasn't a physical difference... just a feeling.

"Morning," Hiruko said, purring at her. She seemed so content until she saw the sky outside. "Something doesn't seem right, I know. But it's nothing to worry about right now, how are you feeling this morning?" he muzzled her gently.

"I'm not too bad, at the moment," replied Mira, bringing her gaze back to Hiruko. "How about you? Did you sleep well?"

"Good," he said. "I slept fine, I got back from being with Kiba and Shiro. That's when this horrible weather started. I rushed back to keep you company just in case you woke up when I wasn't there." He brushed the tuft of hair from her eyes and stared deeply into them.

Mira smiled as their eyes locked. "Oh, I'm sure I'd be able to cope," she said lightly. "But thanks for coming back, all the same." She winced a little. "Ooh, my stomach hurts. Maybe I should have something to eat." Mira sat up then swayed a little as she became a little-light headed. She mentally shrugged it off. "Have we got anything in?" she asked.

"Okay, take it easy," he said as she sat up and he held her gently since she seemed a little unstable. Hiruko frowned slightly but since Mira didn't seemed to be too worried, neither was he. "I caught some fresh deer last night with Kiba and Shiro," Hiruko replied. "I brought a leg home for you. Came at quite a price, I was attacked by one of those feral animals on the island. It wasn't too much hassle though, they think like dumb animals."

"As long as you're alright," Mira smiled. She worried about him, obviously, but she also knew that Hiruko could take care of himself, so whenever Hiruko spoke of things like this, she always made sure not to berate him for not being more careful - he was alive to tell the tale, wasn't he?
Mira tried to stand up, but was oddly overwhelmed with fatigue. "Woah," she said, sitting back down. "I... I don't think I'll be able to walk," Mira added, a hint of concern colouring her words.

"Of course," he said, smiling sweetly at her. "No injuries, not to me anyway!" Mira stood up and immediately sat down after struggling to remain standing. "Hey, hey! Easy now..." Hiruko said, placing his paws on her to keep her from falling or possibly fainting. "I'll go and get you some water." He knew it was a little pointless fetching her some water when she could easily summon it but he didn't want her to use her powers whilst she was weak and unsteady. Hiruko got out of bed and walked to the main living space where there was a kitchen area. A small pool of water was kept in a sink-like structure that Mira had poured out for everyday use. He grabbed a cub and scooped up the fresh, cool water into it. Opposite him, Hiruko heard a sound. He turned around to see Mylar encased in his crystal. But the crystal seemed to be melting away. Once it melted its way to nothing, Mylar began moving again on the cushions he had crystallised himself on. "Morning Hiruko," he yawned sleepily. "Morning Mylar." "What are you up to?" Mylar asked, curiously. Hiruko seemed to be a little bit on edge compared to how Mylar was feeling. "I'm just getting some water for Mira, she hasn't been feeling herself lately," he said with a worried look. He hurried back to their sleeping quarters and handed her the cup. "Drink some water, sweet pea."

Mira took the cup from Hiruko. "Thanks," she said quietly, taking a drink. Looking behind Hiruko, she could see Mylar. "Good morning Mylar," she said to him. "Did you sleep well?" Mira asked with a smile.

Mylar floated shyly into the room. "Hello," he said quietly. "Yes I did, thank you. Are you okay? Hiruko said you weren't feeling too well." Hiruko sat down on the bed next to Mira whilst they spoke.

"Just some stomach pains," Mira said, trying to assure Mylar she was fine. "I'll be right as rain soon enough," she added with a smile and took another sip of water.

Mylar paused for a moment looking unsure. "Mira...I am concerned," he said with a worried expression. "I know I haven't known you for that long but I have...special senses and I just thought, would it be okay if I used them to confirm something? It's for your sake more than mine."

Mira looked surprised. "Oh, um..." She quickly glanced at Hiruko. Mira was certain that Mylar wouldn't hurt her, but she was unsure what he was talking about. In the end, she finally caught her breath. "Sure," she said, "go ahead."

Hiruko glanced at Mylar in surprise, and then at Mira with concern. With Mira's uneasiness, Hiruko wasn't too sure what was going to happen so he sat closer to her. Feeling uneasy himself, Mylar put a tiny paw on Mira and closed his eyes. There was a moments silence in which they all just waited for what Mylar was doing and more importantly, what he was going to say. After a minute or two, Mylar reopened his eyes and stared at them both in an awkward way, not concerned or happy but generally neutral. "Well, I er, hate to be the doctor in the house but...Mira, you're pregnant with two cubs," he announced to them. "Congratulations." Hiruko was surprised to say the least, he knew he shouldn't have been but it was very unexpected. "...Wow," he said after trying to find something to say. "I guess our dream did come true." He looked at Mira, wondering what her response to the surprise was going to be.

Mira stared at Mylar with her eyes opened wide with disbelief. "Are... are you sure?" was what she could finally get out. In her mind was joy, but she was also scared about whether or not Mylar was right. She so badly wanted him to be right, but she was also unsure - this was all so sudden, and she was scared she would not be able to become a good mother.

"I promise you," Mylar told her. "I have a keen sense for these sorts of things. Besides you're showing all the symptoms, all you need for the next few weeks is plenty of rest and TLC."
"Well, I can provide that," Hiruko said smiling and nuzzling her gently. He was almost beaming with joy. He would finally be able to have children! There was an excited fluttering within his chest. Or was it nerves? He couldn't tell. Then he remembered his own childhood...
"Wait, two cubs?" Hiruko asked. Mylar nodded. Hiruko couldn't help but feel a little worried about the siblings. What if they turn out the way that me and my brother did? He thought to himself. What if they become bitter enemies?

Mira was overcome with joy, and a smile spread on her face. She nuzzled up to Hiruko, thinking about how wonderful this all was. "I'm so happy," she whispered, her tail twisting around Hiruko's.
